Ultrasonics

A Marvelous Tool for Endodontics

Operating via high-frequency sound waves (typically 20,000 to 45,000 oscillations per second), these devices convert electrical energy into precise micro-vibrations. General dentists use ultrasonic instruments to remove plaque and tartar from the outside of a tooth. However, endodontists rely on ultrasonics, in tandem with surgical microscopes, to assist with a wide variety of other tasks, all of which endodontists do WITHIN the miniscule interior spaces of your tooth.

Ultrasonic instruments revolutionized modern endodontics decades ago by shifting the field from blind mechanical cutting to high-precision, micro-guided procedures. At Wells Endodontics we use digitally controlled ultrasonic instruments during root canal treatments and retreatments to help with: locating hidden canals, removing calcified dentin, loosening metal posts and broken file fragments and removing debris.

Our use of ultrasonic instruments at Wells Endodontics is just one of the many ways we ensure that we provide our patients with the best possible endodontic treatment.
